I've lived and died a thousand times, but born each time - a rose.

Hello, my name is Alex Messbarger, aka Alexandra Rose. I am a Psychotherapist, Reiki Master and facilitator of holistic healing. My goal is to merge traditional talk therapy with holistic modalities in the form of reiki, meditation, embodiment and sound healing to bring about a deeper, inner-connectedness with Self through the healing process. I believe that I was born a dreamer, a creator, a Lover… though life has taken me on a bit of a journey to which it has eventually brought me back to my starting point; my innate being. As if my heart was whispering to me on this path all along, calling my soul back home. The idea of making my life into a living work of art is the only thing that's ever truly, deeply resonated with me. Giving significance to the tiniest details, I crave to take each of my experiences and make a story of my life, wrapped up with both the beautiful and sad, honoring each of my raw emotions. Welcome to my creative home, a sacred space for each of the us to get intimate with our own souls.

My Philosophy

I’ve lived and died a thousand times, but born each time a rose.

Hello, my name is Alex Messbarger, aka Alexandra Rose. I am a psychotherapist (LMSW), Reiki Master, embodiment coach, certified mindfulness meditation teacher and a facilitator of sound healing. I believe that I was born a dreamer, a creator, a Lover… though life has taken me on a bit of a journey to which it has eventually brought me back to my starting point- my innate being. As if my heart was whispering to me on this path all along, calling my soul back home.

I have my bachelor’s degree in Psychology, as I’ve always been fascinated by the deep and intricate, inner-workings of the human mind, including my own. I love interacting with and speaking with people of all walks of life, diving deep into their souls, as if digging for treasure, knowing that we each have a valuable story to be told. While at one point I found myself on the pursuit to medical school, working in clinical cancer research, I knew that it was the day-to-day human contact and close, heart- to-heart connection I craved most. During this time, I became a certified Reiki Master and meditation teacher, with the intent to be able to use these tools as a means to integrate both the science and spiritual into one. Tapping back into ancient India’s approach with Ayurveda, I, too, believe that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body and spirit and one cannot achieve the balance they crave without taking a look at each of these core sectors.

I later got accepted into graduate school at Columbia University where I obtained my Master of Social Work, allowing me to obtain my LMSW licensing to be a practicing Psychotherapist. Taking a look at all bio-psycho-social aspects, my goal is to come up with a unique course of action, curated specifically for each individual that I work with which fully incorporates all three: mind, body and spirit, bringing about a deep, inner connectedness with Self through meditation, sound healing and therapy.

I find myself passionate about connecting with others, and, as well, using my gift of being able to connect with others to help them better connect with themselves. Although I am keen on not using the word ‘healer’ (as I believe it is you that ultimately holds the power to heal yourself), I want nothing more than to help facilitate that process for others. To create a space to help others connect. To cultivate conversation. To call in compassion.

Meanwhile, if you would like to book a private therapy, Reiki, sound healing, embodiment or meditation session, I’d Love to work with you! You can inquire directly by going to my home page.

Aside from all of that, though, I am, as well, a creative. To make my life and all of its tiny details into a living art is the only thing that's ever deeply resonated with me. I seek to find inspiration in all things. I’ve come to realize I was in Love with poetry, long before I ever even consciously realized I was crafting words together in a particular kind of way that seemed beautiful to me, much like an architect might meticulously lay out a design. I consider poetry much like a savior, giving me a sense of hope and beauty during some of the darkest times of my life as a child. I, as well, dabble in photography and really find myself flirting with anything and everything that calls or excites my soul artistically. On Becoming A Rose is the continuous journey that life has taken me on, but the irony and magic of having realized through this path, that I was, indeed, a Rose all along. Along this path, I was reminded of and reawakened to the qualities that I already possessed (and which we all possess): strength, beauty… divinity.

In this very lifetime, I have lived and died a thousand times— through pain, through loss… through heart break, and yet each time, I continue to rise and rise, again…just like a rose. This is, as well, about the collective “deaths” that women have experienced in this lifetime, and lifetimes past through suppression and shame, made to shadow their femininity, their sexuality, their strength… and a call to each of us, as women, to remember that we all derive from the same beautiful seed… that we are all Roses. And it is our time to rise.

All of this brought about the creation of this: a sacred space for the more mystical and magical things of the world: meditation, astrology, Reiki… poetry, photography... giving me a platform to share my inner most thoughts and passions with others, inviting the space, as well, to get intimate with your own soul.

Thank you for being a part of this experience, x

My Philosophy

I BELIEVE THAT NOT ONLY ARE WE THE ARTISTS OF OUR LIVES, BUT WE EXIST IN A PARADOX OF BEING, AS WELL- THE ART. IT'S ABOUT REVELING IN AND ROMANTICIZING THE BEAUTY AND SIMPLICITY OF THE EVERY DAY LIFE, whilst WELCOMING IN AN AIR OF INTIMACY AS WE GET TO KNOW BETTER AND UNDRESS the INTRICACIES AND SACREDNESS OF OUR OWN SOULS.

Lindens smell fine on fine June nights!
Sometimes the air is so sweet that you close your eyes;
The wind brings sounds--the town is near--
And carries scents of vineyards and beer. . .

(an excerpt from my favorite poem, Novel by Arthur Rimbaud)

No one's serious at seventeen.
--On beautiful nights when beer and lemonade
And loud, blinding cafés are the last thing you need
--You stroll beneath green lindens on the promenade.
